Employment Practices Liability (EPL)Insurance covers the insured, its directors and officers, and its employees for liability arising from Wrongful Termination, Discrimination, and Sexual Harassment.
Before the late 1980s, some protection for wrongful or discriminatory employment practices was provided under the general liability policy or employers' liability coverage, but subsequent exclusions under these policies have virtually eliminated the coverage.
Coverage is written on a claims-made basis. Some EPL policies provide very specific coverage, such as for claims brought under the Americans with Disabilities Act or the Civil Rights Act.
